As I have explained earlier, in my life I got very lost in a world that made little sense to me. I grew up with the knowledge we are very much a part of nature and the natural world – a gift given to me from my father and farming ancestors.
Since I was a child, I have always been very concerned about the way we treat the natural world and each other in the way that we do. Experiences in my life led me to withdraw and isolate, till over 10 years ago, I realised I needed to change the way I lived my life.I woke up one day as if it were any other; however, on this day I had an incredibly profound experience that has changed my world. A door was opened, I chose to walk through and I found the courage to take the first steps on my own healing journey, an adventure that still continues to this day.
It is important for me to say that I have had direct experience of the work I offer; in my own personal healings and that I am professionally trained to undertake this work with you. In my own experience of my healing, it is important to understand that a person undertaking the healing work is willing and has walked the path along which I am now choosing to walk.
Alongside my shamanic practice I am a qualified counsellor. I choose to work part-time as a therapeutic group facilitator, mostly working with people experiencing 'addiction' or 'mental health' issues, though I always work to see the person and not the labels. Previous to this, I worked for a number of years with young people and the community using the principles of restorative justice.
Of importance to me in my practice is that I work alongside my client and their own unique experience of life: I see my role is simply to walk beside you on your healing journey.
The depth that direct experience of working with Shamanism has brought to my own life – the wholeness and harmony – has been simply amazing; this has led me to live a much richer and more meaningful life than I could ever have imagined. I really see the potential and power in these ways especially at this time, so much so that I committed myself to a professional training with the Sacred Trust. I successfully completed my training and have made shamanism a way of life. It is for these reasons that I offer the work to you in the hope and possibility that you may truly walk well in your own life.
I have now lived in Bath for over 10 years with my wonderful wife, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world, in which I am often to be found.
A PERSONAL STATEMENT AND COMMITMENT TO MY OWN PERSONAL CODE OF ETHICS AS A SHAMANIC PRACTIONER.
I undertook 4 years of professional training to qualify as a counsellor. My training at the University of West of England was a recognised accredited course with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The code of ethics given from BACP was central and ran through the core of my training.
In my counselling professional life I abide and work to this code of ethics and understand the reasons why this is needed, and the consequences of stepping outside this framework.
In the words that follow I give my own personal commitment to the responsibility and integrity that I fully understand and embrace in offering myself to serve in the role of a shamanic practioner.
I have always understood that the professional path I have taken is not something that is turned on at 9am and switched off at 5pm: I am committing to a way of life; therefore the way I stand at the bus stop requires the same integrity, attention and responsibility as I would bring to the sacredness of ceremony. I understand that all life and each moment are sacred to be lived with full integrity and a responsibility to myself and all I share the planet with.
I understand that in order to be with another you need to be able to be with yourself and go inside to fully face yourself, so in undertaking this role of shamanic practitioner I commit to my own journey within myself both personally and professionally and understand that this is a life long process, I will continue and commit to develop myself with professional trainings and my own personal development and healing as this unfolds.
It is with the intent in the above statement that I commit to not create the conditions that brought the client to me in the first place. I will respect where each person is in their own life and also where they have been and I simply offer to support them with the skills, methods and integrity of the trainings that I have been shown.
The practice of shamanism is always, always, spirit driven work. My role is simply to act as the intermediary with spirit employing the methods of my skill and knowledge in service of the client before me. The integrity of how I live my life and commitment to my own healing deepens my own relationships with the compassionate helping spirits that I work in partnership with. Therefore I am better able to be of service to the person before me.
I will seek to create a safe sacred space for our work together; I will undertake all measures so that we are not interrupted. When I am with the client and in my preparations before we meet, I will give my full attention to them for that time. I will hold all conversations and information as highly confidential and under no circumstances will discuss this with anyone else. There is only one exception to this and that is if I become aware of child protection issues, risk of harm to self or others and acts of terrorism. I will if at all possible talk with the client first if I feel a need to break confidentiality.
While rigorously and faultlessly holding confidentiality of the people I work with I will seek to develop a supportive community of like-minded people to sustain and nurture my life and work.
I will undertake every effort to meet the needs of the person I am to work with or anyone who they have chosen to witness and support their healing. If this is not possible I will seek to suggest and refer on to an appropriate qualified practitioner.
I will seek to respect and honour all people's experience and background, their own ethics and values and cultural differences. I see my role is simply to support and bring the information and healing necessary from spirit to help you take your next steps forward wherever they may be.
In all possible circumstances I will honour any commitments made with regard to our appointments and in the event this is not possible, I will inform you at the first opportunity. If for whatever reason I feel unable to offer you a service I will discuss this with you in an open, honest way.
I am suitably-trained and feel confident in offering this work, and will operate measures in my life to nurture and undertake full self-care so that when we meet I am truly able to be with you.
In applying to be on the recognised list of practitioners of the Scared Trust I am honouring and hold myself accountable to the integrity of the Sacred Trust. I hold myself accountable to myself and the Sacred Trust in the way I both practice as a Shamanic Practitioner and also simply how I live my life in each moment.
If someone is genuinely not able to afford the fee that I request, then I am open to discuss this and negotiate an affordable fee. I will not turn anyone away because of an honest and genuine lack of funds. |
